Our take on the Makita XGT TD002GD201 Cordless Impact Wrench

The Makita XGT TD002GD201 is a 40V cordless impact driver from Makita's XGT line, sold as a kit with two 2.5 Ah batteries and a charger. It delivers up to 220 Nm of torque and 4,600 RPM through a 1/4-inch hex shank, aimed at heavy fastening and industrial work rather than light home jobs. It weighs roughly 1.7 to 2.9 kg with the battery, so it is a substantial tool in hand. Questions and answers

Is the Makita TD002G worth it over an 18V impact driver?
If you drive large screws or lag bolts all day, the extra torque and speed of the 40V XGT tool are worth it. For occasional home use, an 18V LXT driver is lighter and cheaper.
How long do the two 2.5 Ah batteries last?
Runtime depends on load, but two 2.5 Ah 40V packs cover most trade sessions with one charging while the other works. Heavy continuous fastening will drain them faster than light assembly.
Does it take standard 1/4-inch hex bits?
Yes. It uses a standard 1/4-inch hex shank, so common impact-rated driver bits fit directly. Use impact-rated bits, not plain ones.
What is in the box?
The kit includes the TD002G impact driver, two 2.5 Ah 40V batteries and a charger. Bits and case contents vary by kit, so confirm with the listing.
Can it be used for lug nuts or sockets?
No. It has a 1/4-inch hex shank, not a square drive, so it is not suited to sockets or wheel nuts. Choose a dedicated impact wrench for those.
When is it cheapest?
Kit prices tend to dip during seasonal tool promotions and when a newer model launches. Watch the price history chart and buy below the recent average.
