Our take on the MCON Day Mobile Gaming Controller

The MCON is a wireless mobile controller that snaps onto a phone like a MagSafe accessory and unfolds into a full gamepad with deployable grips. It uses full-size TMR joysticks, Hall-effect analog triggers and a gyroscope, and its aluminum AL 6061-T6 body is built to be opened, modded and repaired. Battery life is rated up to 9 hours of play and up to 1.8 years on standby, with wireless charge-through. It is aimed at emulator players who want a console-style pad in portrait mode.

Questions and answers

Is the MCON worth it over a cheaper clip-on controller?
If you play emulators in portrait mode and want full-size TMR sticks, Hall-effect triggers and a repairable aluminum body, the MCON offers more than most clip-on pads. Casual players who only need a few buttons may not need to spend this much.
Does it work with Android phones as well as iPhone?
Yes. It connects over Bluetooth and is listed as compatible with all phones. Non-MagSafe devices attach with the included adapter.
How long does the battery last?
Up to 9 hours of continuous play and up to 1.8 years on standby, from a 500 mAh battery. It charges wirelessly through the mount.
Can I use it in landscape mode?
It is designed around portrait mode for emulators, and the deployable grips and sticks are laid out for that. Landscape play is possible but less comfortable.
What is in the box?
The controller and an adapter for non-MagSafe devices. A charger is not listed.
