Questions and answers

Is the Mecale 18.5 in barrel smoker good for beginners?
Yes. It runs on plain charcoal with a lid thermometer and no electronics, so the learning curve is vent control rather than setup. Expect to practice holding a steady 225-250°F.
What can I hang in it?
The hanging rod and six hooks are meant for ribs, whole chickens and similar cuts cooked upright over the coals. Hanging lets drippings fall clear of the fire and fits more meat than one grate alone.
How many people does it feed?
Two grates plus the hanging rod give it more room than its 18.5-inch width suggests. It handles a family cook or a small backyard gathering, but not a large party in one load.
Is $172.98 a good price?
It is the lowest new price among the two stores that list it, at $172.98 at Lowe's as of November 7, 2026. Budget barrel smokers in this size commonly sell in the $150-$250 range, so it sits at the low end.
Does it come with a cover or charcoal?
The listed package is the smoker with two grates, hanging rod, six hooks and thermometer. A cover and fuel are usually sold separately on this type of grill, so check the box contents before buying.
How do I keep the temperature steady?
Use a chimney of lit charcoal, keep the lid closed and adjust the intake and exhaust vents in small steps. A lid thermometer reads hotter than grate level, so confirm with a probe at the grate.
Where is the Mecale 18.5 in Barrel Smoker Grill with 2 Cooking Grates, Hanging Rod, 6 Hooks and Thermometer cheapest?
At Lowe's, for $172.98, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Mecale 18.5 in Barrel Smoker Grill with 2 Cooking Grates, Hanging Rod, 6 Hooks and Thermometer?
