Is the Vapor 16 Academy worth it over the Elite?

For most club and recreational players, yes. The Academy keeps the Mercurial shape and heel Air Zoom but uses heavier materials and a simpler plate than the Elite, which costs several times more.

It has a contoured, narrow fit, and sizing advice is to order half a size up. Wide-footed players should try it on before buying.

Can I wear these on turf?

They are listed for natural and synthetic surfaces, so firm-ground turf is fine. Avoid soft, wet grass, where you need longer studs.

What is the upper made of?

A NikeSkin upper with embedded chevrons, made with at least 20% recycled content by weight.

Our take on the Mercurial Vapor 16 Academy Soccer Cleats

The Nike Mercurial Vapor 16 Academy is a speed-focused soccer cleat with a NikeSkin upper, a heel Air Zoom unit and a wave-like traction pattern for natural and synthetic surfaces. It sits below the elite Vapor 16, so you get the Mercurial shape and heel cushioning without the top-tier plate and materials. The best new price is $12.78 at Picknexlivo as of November 8, 2026, far below what a current Mercurial Academy normally costs, so check that the listing is the right model and size before ordering.
