Our take on the Meridian Furniture Dorian Upholstered Bed Taupe King Velvet

The Dorian is a king-size upholstered platform bed from Meridian Furniture, wrapped in taupe velvet with a tall, channel-tufted headboard. It is a statement piece for a main bedroom rather than a budget frame, and the soft velvet finish suits warm, neutral rooms. At $1,260 at 1stopbedrooms as of November 7, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare it against.

Pros
  • Tall channel-tufted headboard gives strong visual presence
  • Velvet upholstery in taupe hides scuffs better than light linen
  • King size suits couples who want room to spread out
  • Upholstered frame is softer against shins than wood or metal
Cons
  • Velvet shows body oils and dust on the headboard and needs regular brushing
  • Taupe reads darker in low light than in product photos
  • Heavy and awkward to move once assembled
  • Only one new price listed, so there is little competition to push the price down

Questions and answers

Is the Dorian bed a platform bed or does it need a box spring?
It is an upholstered platform-style bed, so a box spring is not required. A king mattress sits directly on the slats or support deck.
How tall is the headboard?
Meridian's Dorian line uses a tall headboard, roughly 50 inches or more on the king, which is high enough to lean against while sitting up. Confirm the exact figure with the retailer before ordering.
Will taupe velvet look brown or gray in my room?
Taupe sits between brown and gray, and velvet shifts with the light. In warm lamplight it reads brown; in cool daylight it looks more greige.
Does the king size fit a standard king mattress?
Yes, it is built for a standard king mattress, 76 by 80 inches. Check the mattress depth, since very thick mattresses can cover part of the headboard.
Is $1,260 a good price for this bed?
It is the only new price listed as of November 7, 2026, so there is no recent range to judge it against. Compare it with other velvet king beds before deciding.
How hard is assembly?
Expect to attach the headboard, side rails and support slats, and to need a second person because of the size and weight. Allow an hour or two.
Where is the Meridian Furniture Dorian Upholstered Bed Taupe King Velvet cheapest?
At 1stopbedrooms, for $1,260.00, as of our latest check.
