The Black Album is widely seen as Metallica's most accessible record, and owners of this reissue generally rate the remastered 180g pressing well. Complaints tend to focus on the shift away from thrash and on pressing quality varying between copies.
The original black album. Metallica's self-titled album from '91, and the one with all their biggest hits finally gets a proper sounding reissue, courtesy of their own Blackened Recordings imprint. Even if you didn't watch Headbanger's Ball, you should know "The Unforgiven," Nothing Else Matters," and "Wherever I May Roam," and of course, "Enter Sandman." Obviously this was the one with the cross-over appeal for Metallica and marked a noticeable change from the thrash metal sound of their previous work, to a less harsh, more melodic form of metal.
