Our take on the Microsoft Surface Laptop 13.8" 2K Touchscreen Snapdragon X2 Elite

The Surface Laptop 13.8" is Microsoft's mainstream premium ultraportable, here in a Jade finish with a 2256 x 1504 120Hz touchscreen, Snapdragon X2 Elite, 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. It stands out for its 20-hour battery claim, facial and fingerprint login, backlit keyboard and a port set that still includes USB-A. At $1,319.99 at Newegg Business as of November 3, 2026, it sits at the low end of what the 8 new listings show, so this is a favorable moment to buy.

Best forStudents and office workers who need all-day batteryWindows users who want a touchscreen with a 120Hz panelBuyers who still need a USB-A portPeople who prefer face or fingerprint login over typing passwords
Pros
  • 20-hour rated battery suits long days away from an outlet
  • 120Hz 2K touchscreen is sharp and smooth for a laptop this size
  • 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD leave little to upgrade soon
  • Facial recognition plus fingerprint reader gives two fast login options
  • USB-A, USB-C and a headphone jack cover everyday accessories
  • Jade color stands out from the usual silver and black
Cons
  • 5 lb is heavy for a 13.8-inch laptop, closer to a 15-inch machine
  • Snapdragon X2 Elite runs Windows on Arm, so some apps and games need emulation or don't run
  • No dedicated GPU, so gaming and heavy creative work are limited
  • 5 GHz is a peak boost figure, not sustained all-core speed

Questions and answers

Is the Surface Laptop 13.8" worth $1,319.99?
At $1,319.99 at Newegg Business as of November 3, 2026, it is the lowest of the 8 new listings, which makes it a good entry point for a 16GB/1TB machine with a 120Hz touchscreen. Whether it is worth it depends on whether your software runs natively on Arm Windows.
Does it run all Windows software?
It runs Windows on Arm, so most mainstream apps work, but some older or specialized programs and many games rely on emulation or don't run at all. Check the publisher's Arm support before buying for work-critical software.
How long does the battery really last?
Microsoft rates it at 20 hours, which usually means light web and document use at reduced brightness. Expect noticeably less with video calls, high brightness or the 120Hz screen at full refresh rate.
Is 5 lb too heavy to carry?
It is on the heavy side for a 13.8-inch laptop and feels closer to a 15-inch model in a bag. If you carry it daily on foot or by bike, a lighter 13-inch ultraportable may suit you better.
What ports does it have?
It includes USB-A, USB-C and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, plus a backlit keyboard and both facial and fingerprint login. There is no mention of HDMI or a card reader, so plan on an adapter or dock for external displays.
When is it cheapest?
The current $1,319.99 at Newegg Business as of November 3, 2026 is already the lowest of 8 new listings. Surface laptops typically see deeper cuts around Black Friday and back-to-school season, so waiting for those windows can pay off if you are not in a hurry.
Where is the Microsoft Surface Laptop 13.8" 2K Touchscreen Snapdragon X2 Elite cheapest?
