Our take on the Midwest Ovation Single Door Crate with Up & Away Door

The Midwest Ovation is a metal single-door dog crate with a garage-style door that slides up and out of the way instead of swinging open. It folds flat, has two ABS handles for carrying, and includes a leak-proof plastic pan. The door's low threshold makes it easier for puppies and older dogs to step in. At $63.12 at Chewy.com as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent price range, with three stores listing it new.

Questions and answers

Is the Midwest Ovation crate good for house training a puppy?
Yes. The low threshold and overhead door make it easy to put a puppy in and out during training. Choose a size with room to stand and turn, and use a divider if the puppy is small.
Does the Up & Away door need space above the crate?
Yes. The door slides up and over the top, so leave clearance above the crate. It is a good fit where a swinging door would hit furniture or a wall.
Is this crate airline approved?
No. Midwest does not list the Ovation as airline approved. Check your airline's rules and use a carrier approved for cabin or cargo travel.
What sizes does the Midwest Ovation come in?
It is sold in several sizes for small to large breeds. Measure your dog's height and length while standing and add a few inches before picking a size.
How do I clean the Midwest Ovation crate?
Remove the leak-proof plastic pan and wash it with mild soap and water. Wipe the coated metal frame with a damp cloth and dry it to prevent rust.
When is the best time to buy it?
At $63.12 at Chewy.com as of November 5, 2026, it is already near the low end of its recent range. Watch for seasonal pet-supply sales for further drops.
