Our take on the Milwaukee 14 in. Abrasive Cut-Off Saw

The Milwaukee 14 in. Abrasive Cut-Off Saw is a corded chop saw for cutting rebar, angle iron, channel, conduit and pipe. A 15 amp motor rated at 4 hp spins a 14 in. abrasive wheel, and the quick-adjust vise and adjustable fence hold stock at 0° or up to 45° for miter cuts. It cuts up to 5 in thick material and weighs about 40 lb, so it is a bench or jobsite tool rather than a handheld one. Oversized wheel guards and a large spindle lock button with no-tool wheel changes are the practical touches.

Jobsite or shop use where a corded saw is fine
Miter cuts up to 45° on metal stock
Pros
  • 15 amp, 4 hp motor handles thick steel and rebar
  • Quick-adjust vise speeds up repeat cuts
  • Adjustable fence and 45° miter capacity
  • Oversized wheel guards contain sparks and debris
  • No-tool blade change with large spindle lock
  • All-ball-bearing construction for durability
Cons
  • Corded only; needs a 120 V outlet
  • About 40 lb, so it is not portable by hand for long
  • Abrasive wheels are loud, spark heavily and wear down
  • Abrasive cuts leave burrs and heat-affected edges
  • No laser or shadow line; alignment relies on the fence

Questions and answers

Is this saw worth it over a cheaper abrasive chop saw?
If you cut steel regularly, the 15 amp motor, quick-adjust vise and ball-bearing build justify the step up. For occasional light cuts, a budget saw will do the same job more slowly.
Can it cut 45-degree miters?
Yes. The vise and adjustable fence swivel to 45° for miter cuts, and the saw cuts up to 5 in thick material at 90°.
Does it come with a blade?
Yes, a 14 in. abrasive wheel with a 1 in. arbor is included. The large spindle lock button lets you change wheels without tools.
Can I use it to cut wood?
No. It is designed for metal: rebar, angle iron, channel, conduit and pipe. An abrasive wheel is not a wood-cutting setup.
How much does it weigh, and can one person move it?
About 40 lb. One person can lift it, but it is meant to sit on a bench or stand, not to be carried around all day.
When is it cheapest?
Metal-cutting saws tend to dip during holiday sales and contractor promotions. Check the price history on this page before buying.
