Is the 2780-20 worth it over a corded grinder?

If you already own M18 batteries, yes: it cuts and grinds close to an 11A corded unit without a cord. If you work at a bench near power, a corded grinder costs less and never needs a battery.

Does it come with a battery and charger?

No. The 2780-20 is a bare tool. You need an M18 battery and charger, and a 5.0Ah XC pack is the practical minimum for sustained grinding.

What is the difference between the 2780-20 and the 2880-20?

The 2880-20 is the newer M18 Fuel grinder with a rat-tail grip and a tool-free guard and wheel change. The 2780-20 uses a paddle switch and a more traditional body.

What size wheels does it take?

It accepts 4-1/2" and 5" wheels on a 5/8"-11 spindle. Most 4-1/2" accessories fit directly.

Does it have variable speed?

No. It runs at a fixed 8,500 RPM. For variable speed on M18, look at the 2880-20 or a dedicated variable-speed model.
