Our take on the Milwaukee M12 FUEL 3/8 in. Stubby Impact Wrench with M12 XC High Output 5.0 Ah Battery Pack

The Milwaukee M12 FUEL 3/8 in. Stubby Impact Wrench is a compact 12V cordless wrench with a brushless motor rated at 550 ft-lbs of torque and 3,500 impacts per minute. Its short body (about 2.4 in wide) fits where full-size impact wrenches won't, making it a favorite for engine bays, brakes and tight chassis work. This bundle adds an M12 XC High Output 5.0 Ah battery, but no charger. It is a tool-plus-battery kit rather than a full kit, so check whether you already own M12 charging gear before you buy.

Questions and answers

Is the M12 FUEL Stubby strong enough for lug nuts?
It is rated at 550 ft-lbs, which handles many passenger-car lug nuts, but it is not a high-torque truck tool. For heavy-duty or rusted fasteners, step up to an 18V or high-torque impact.
Does this kit include a charger?
No. The bundle includes the wrench and one M12 XC High Output 5.0 Ah battery, but no charger. You need an M12 charger, or a kit that includes one.
How does it compare to the standard M12 stubby?
The FUEL version uses a brushless motor and is rated higher on torque than the older brushed M12 stubby. It also runs cooler and lasts longer under load.
Will the 5.0 Ah High Output battery fit other M12 tools?
Yes. It works with any M12 tool, and High Output cells deliver more current for tools that draw hard, like this wrench.
What's in the box?
The M12 FUEL 3/8 in. Stubby Impact Wrench and one M12 XC High Output 5.0 Ah battery. No charger, case or extra battery is included.
When is the best time to buy it?
Milwaukee promos and holiday sales often bundle a free battery or charger. Watch for those events rather than buying at list price.
What do buyers say about the Milwaukee M12 FUEL 3/8 in. Stubby Impact Wrench with M12 XC High Output 5.0 Ah Battery Pack?
Rated 4.7 out of 5 from 755 ratings.
