Our take on the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 3/8" Mid-Torque Impact Wrench with Friction Ring (Bare Tool)

The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 3/8" Mid-Torque Impact Wrench is a cordless, brushless impact wrench that delivers up to 600 ft-lb of breakaway torque and 550 ft-lb of fastening torque. It has a 3/8-inch square friction-ring drive, four speed settings, and weighs about 4 lb. It is sold as a bare tool, so no battery or charger is included. It sits between Milwaukee's compact and high-torque models, and its price varies with sales and kit bundles.

Questions and answers

Is the Milwaukee M18 FUEL mid-torque impact wrench worth it?
Yes for most auto and general repair work. It offers 600 ft-lb breakaway torque in a compact 4 lb body, and it makes sense if you already own M18 batteries. If you only work on light fasteners, a compact model may be enough.
Does it come with a battery and charger?
No. This is a bare tool, so no battery or charger is included. You need an M18 18V lithium-ion battery and a compatible charger, which are sold separately.
How does it compare to the high-torque M18 impact wrench?
The mid-torque model is smaller and lighter, with 600 ft-lb breakaway torque. The high-torque 1/2-inch model delivers more torque for heavy truck and equipment fasteners but is larger and heavier. Choose the mid-torque for general auto work and the high-torque for the toughest jobs.
What size sockets does it use?
It has a 3/8-inch square drive with a friction ring, so it takes 3/8-inch drive sockets. For larger fasteners you would need adapters or a 1/2-inch drive wrench.
How much torque does it have?
It is rated at 600 ft-lb of breakaway torque and 550 ft-lb of fastening torque, with a no-load speed of 2,575 RPM and 3,100 impacts per minute.
When is the best time to buy it?
Prices move with sales and kit bundles, so compare bare-tool and kit prices before buying. Holiday sales and Milwaukee promotions are common times for lower prices.
What do buyers say about the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 3/8" Mid-Torque Impact Wrench with Friction Ring (Bare Tool)?
