Is the Squier Mini Jazzmaster HH good for a beginner?

Yes. The 22.75-inch scale and light body suit smaller hands and new players, and the hardtail bridge keeps tuning stable. Budget for a setup so the action is comfortable.

How does it differ from a full-size Jazzmaster?

It is about 3 inches shorter in scale, has 20 frets instead of 21, and uses a hardtail bridge instead of a floating tremolo. It also has two humbuckers rather than Jazzmaster single-coils.

What strings does it take?

It ships with .009-.042 nickel-plated steel strings. Because of the short scale, many owners move up to .010 or .011 gauges for more tension.

It is one of the better options for younger players. The short scale and narrow 1.60-inch nut reduce reach, and the light poplar body is easy to hold.

Our take on the Mini Jazzmaster HH

The Squier Mini Jazzmaster HH is a short-scale electric guitar with a 22.75-inch scale, a poplar body with a maple top, and a maple neck and fingerboard. It pairs two Squier humbuckers with a 3-way switch and a hardtail bridge, so it stays in tune and covers rock tones without a tremolo. The 20-fret, 9.5-inch-radius neck and 1.60-inch nut make it easy for smaller hands. Its best new price is $199.99 at Adorama as of November 4, 2026, with 5 stores listing it new.
