Our take on the Modway Marlee Wood Platform Bed With Splayed Legs

The Modway Marlee is a wood platform bed with a tall headboard and angled splayed legs, sold in King size here. It uses a slatted wood platform, so no box spring is needed. The King lists at $528.53 at Best Buy as of November 7, 2026, and only two stores carry it new, so price competition is thin. It suits shoppers who want a mid-century look without paying designer prices.

Best forShoppers furnishing a mid-century or modern bedroomKing-size sleepers who want to skip a box springBuyers who want a headboard included in one purchase
Pros
  • Slatted platform supports a mattress without a box spring
  • Tall headboard and splayed legs give a finished mid-century look
  • Solid wood frame rather than particleboard
  • King size at $528.53 is modest for a wood platform bed
Cons
  • Only two stores sell it new, so there is little price competition
  • Assembly is multi-step and easier with two people
  • Wood frame can creak if bolts loosen over time
  • No upholstery, so the headboard is hard against a wall or reading in bed

Questions and answers

Do I need a box spring with the Marlee platform bed?
No. The wood slat platform supports a mattress directly. A box spring would only add height.
Is $528.53 a good price for the King?
It is the best new price found as of November 7, 2026, and only two stores sell it new, so there is little room to undercut it. Watch for seasonal furniture sales if you can wait.
How hard is assembly?
It is a multi-step build with slats and legs. Plan on an hour or more and a second person for the headboard and frame.
What mattress thickness works best?
A standard 8 to 12 inch mattress sits well on the platform. Very soft mattresses may feel the slat gaps, so check spacing before buying.
Does it come in other sizes and colors?
The Marlee line is offered in multiple sizes and finishes, including black, brown, gray and multicolor. This listing is the King.
Where is the Modway Marlee Wood Platform Bed With Splayed Legs cheapest?
At Best Buy, for $528.53, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Modway Marlee Wood Platform Bed With Splayed Legs?
2 stores we checked sell it, including Best Buy, 1stopbedrooms.
