Our take on the Mohawk Home Waterproof Rug Pad

The Mohawk Home Waterproof Rug Pad is a thin rubber pad that goes under an area rug to stop slipping and keep spills and moisture off the floor below. It is listed for a 9' x 12' rug and is described as customizable, so it can be trimmed to fit. The rubber backing and low profile suit hard floors and carpet alike, and the waterproof layer is the main selling point for pet owners and busy rooms. The best new price is $79.60 at Walmart as of November 5, 2026, the only new price found, so there is no recent range to compare it against.

Questions and answers

Is the Mohawk Home Waterproof Rug Pad worth it?
If slipping rugs or spills on hard floors are your problem, yes. It is a thin protective layer rather than a cushion, so do not expect much softness underfoot.
Can I cut it to fit a smaller rug?
Yes. It is listed as customizable, so trim it with scissors to about an inch inside the rug edge for a clean look.
Does it work on carpet as well as hard floors?
It is listed for both hard surface flooring and carpet. On carpet, the grip side faces up against the rug.
Will it protect my hardwood from pet accidents?
The waterproof rubber layer is meant to keep moisture off the floor below, which is why pet owners are a target user. Wipe up spills promptly and spot clean the pad.
How do I clean it?
Spot clean only. Vacuum loose debris and wipe spots with a damp cloth, then let it dry fully before putting the rug back.
