Our take on the Morimoto D2S XB HID Bulb 5000K 35W

The Morimoto XB is a 35W D2S HID bulb sold as a matched pair, built on Philips quartz glass and rated for 3 to 5 years of use. It runs at 5000K, a neutral white with a slight cool tint, and puts out roughly 2,800 to 3,500 lumens per bulb. It is a drop-in replacement for factory D2S projectors and needs no ballast, since the car's existing HID ballast drives it. The best new price is $41 at The Lighting Guru as of November 5, 2026, the only new listing tracked.

Best forDrivers replacing burned-out or color-shifted factory D2S HID bulbsOwners of cars with factory HID projectors who want a neutral white outputBuyers who want a matched pair rather than a single bulb
Pros
  • Sold as a matched pair, so both sides start at the same color and output
  • 5000K gives clean white light without the blue tint of higher Kelvin bulbs
  • Philips quartz glass and Morimoto's reputation for consistent HID quality
  • 35W D2S base drops into factory HID housings with no wiring changes
  • Includes alcohol wipes for handling the glass before install
Cons
  • No ballast included; it only works in cars that already have D2S HID ballasts
  • Not a legal upgrade for halogen housings or reflector headlights
  • HID bulbs take a few seconds to reach full brightness from cold
  • Color can shift as the bulb ages, so a used pair may not match a new one

Questions and answers

Is 5000K too blue for night driving?
No. 5000K reads as neutral white with only a faint cool tint, well short of the blue look of 6000K and up. It keeps good contrast on dark roads without drawing attention.
Will these fit my car?
Only if your car uses D2S HID bulbs and has factory or aftermarket HID ballasts. Check the bulb type on your existing bulb or owner's manual; halogen housings need a different setup.
Do I need a new ballast?
No, if your current ballast works. The XB is a 35W D2S bulb that runs on the existing HID ballast; replace the ballast only if it has failed.
How long do they last?
Morimoto rates them at 3 to 5 years. Output fades gradually before failure, so many owners replace them earlier for brightness rather than waiting for a burn-out.
What's in the box?
A pair of D2S bulbs and alcohol wipes for cleaning the glass before installation. No ballast or wiring is included.
When is the price lowest?
The only new listing tracked is $41 at The Lighting Guru as of November 5, 2026. HID bulbs often dip during holiday sales, so check the price history before buying.
Where is the Morimoto D2S XB HID Bulb 5000K 35W cheapest?
