Our take on the National Tree Company Downswept Douglas Fir Tree with Clear Lights

This is a pre-lit artificial Douglas Fir from National Tree Company, a brand known for realistic branch tips and hinged assembly. The version listed carries 600 clear lights and is rated for outdoor use, so it can go on a porch or patio as well as indoors. At $317.99 at Michaels Stores as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent price range, so waiting for a holiday markdown is reasonable.

Pros
  • Lights are pre-strung, so no untangling strands
  • Hinged branches fold down for quicker setup and storage
  • Rated for outdoor use, which most artificial trees are not
  • Douglas Fir shape gives a fuller, natural silhouette
  • Clear white lights suit classic and neutral decor
Cons
  • $317.99 is a high entry price for a single tree
  • 600 lights is modest for a large tree; some owners add strands
  • Clear bulbs can fail one at a time and are fiddly to replace
  • Outdoor use means UV fading and weather wear over seasons
  • Bulky to store even when folded

Questions and answers

Is this tree worth $317.99?
It is a fair price for a pre-lit, outdoor-rated National Tree Company fir, but it is at the high end of its recent range. If you are not in a hurry, holiday sales at Michaels and other retailers often bring it lower.
Can it really be used outdoors?
Yes, the listing rates it for outdoor use, so a covered porch or patio is fine. Keep the plug and connections out of standing water and expect some fading if it sits in direct sun for months.
How many lights does it have, and are they LED?
This version has 600 clear lights. National Tree Company sells both incandescent and LED versions of its pre-lit trees, so confirm which one a given listing is before buying.
Is assembly difficult?
No. The tree is hinged, so the branches drop into place and the sections connect with pre-strung plugs. Most people finish setup in under an hour.
When is it cheapest?
Pre-lit trees usually drop during early November sales and again right after Christmas. Track the price history here and buy when it falls below the current $317.99.
