Is the 1540v4 good for overpronation?

Yes. It is a motion-control shoe with firm medial posting, aimed at walkers and runners who overpronate. If you need a soft, neutral ride, look elsewhere.

How does the 1540v4 differ from the v3?

The v4 keeps the same stability platform and wide sizing with small upper and cushioning updates. Owners of the v3 can expect a similar fit and ride.

Does it fit true to size?

It fits true to length for most buyers, and the wide widths give extra room across the forefoot. Try your usual New Balance size first.

Is it good for running or just walking?

It handles easy runs and walking, but it is heavy and stiff for speed work. Most buyers use it for walking, standing and recovery runs.

When is the best time to buy?

New Balance and retailers usually discount the 1540 when a new version arrives. As of November 4, 2026, the best new price is $199.99 at New Balance with only one store listing it.
