Our take on the NEX Rotary Tattoo Machine 3.5mm

The NEX Rotary Tattoo Machine is a corded rotary pen with a 3.5mm stroke, a Japanese motor, and an RCA connection. It runs from 4V to 12V and up to 13,000 rpm, with needle protrusion adjustable from 0 to 8mm. The 3.5mm stroke sits in the middle of the range, so it handles lining and shading without being tuned to either. At $49.99 at Element Tattoo Supply as of November 4, 2026, it is a low-cost entry into a rotary setup, and only one store lists it new, so there is no price spread to compare.

Questions and answers

Is the NEX Rotary Tattoo Machine good for beginners?
It is a reasonable first rotary. The 3.5mm stroke is forgiving for lining and shading, and the 4V-12V range lets you slow it down while learning. The low price limits the risk if you later upgrade.
What does the 3.5mm stroke mean for my work?
A 3.5mm stroke is mid-length. It gives solid punch for lining and enough give for shading and color packing. Very short strokes suit fine detail and very long strokes suit soft shading, so this is a compromise that covers most work.
Does it come with a power supply or cord?
The machine uses an RCA clip cord connection, but the listing does not confirm whether a cord or power supply is included. Plan on having an RCA cord and a compatible power supply before your first session.
Can I adjust how far the needle sticks out?
Yes. Needle protrusion adjusts from 0 to 8mm, so you can set the tip depth to suit lining or shading. Check the setting before each session, since it can shift during use.
Is $49.99 a good price for it?
At $49.99 at Element Tattoo Supply as of November 4, 2026, it is cheap for a rotary with a Japanese motor and adjustable stroke. Only one store lists it new, so there is no lower competing price to check against.
Does it work with standard cartridges?
The machine takes standard needle cartridges with an adjustable protrusion of 0 to 8mm. Confirm the grip accepts the cartridge brand you use, since grip compatibility varies between rotary pens.
Where is the NEX Rotary Tattoo Machine 3.5mm cheapest?
At Element Tattoo Supply, for $49.99, as of our latest check.
