Is the 24-120mm f/4 worth it over the 24-70mm f/2.8?

If you want one lens for travel and events, yes: you gain 70-120mm and lose a stop of light. The f/2.8 zoom is better for low light and shallow depth of field but costs more and covers less range.

Does it work on DX bodies?

Yes, on Nikon DX DSLRs it behaves like a 36-180mm lens. You lose the wide end, so it suits DX users mainly as a telephoto zoom.

Does it have image stabilization?

Yes, Vibration Reduction is built in and works on any compatible F-mount body. It helps at the long end and in dim light but does not freeze moving subjects.

The lens comes with a bayonet lens hood. Front and rear caps are normally included; check the listing for the exact bundle.

Is it weather-sealed?

No. The lens is not waterproof, so use a rain cover or shelter in wet conditions.

Prices on this older F-mount lens tend to dip during holiday sales and when Nikon runs rebates. The current best new price is $639.95 at Newegg.com as of November 3, 2026.

Our take on the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR

A full-frame F-mount zoom covering 24mm wide angle to 120mm telephoto at a constant f/4, with Vibration Reduction and internal focusing. It is the all-in-one walkaround lens for Nikon DSLRs, trading the f/2.8 speed of pro zooms for range and a lighter 710 g body. The best new price is $639.95 at Newegg.com as of November 3, 2026, with 5 stores listing it new.
