Is the Game Boy Pocket worth buying in 2026?

If you want to play original cartridges on real hardware, yes; it is the most portable way to do that. If you just want to play the games, emulation or a modern handheld is cheaper and easier.

How is it different from the original Game Boy?

It is smaller and lighter, has a sharper screen, and uses two AAA batteries instead of four AAs. It plays the same cartridges and has no backlight.

Does it play Game Boy Color games?

No. It plays original monochrome Game Boy cartridges only; Game Boy Color games will not run.

What comes in the box?

The yellow console, the original box and paperwork. No batteries, power cable or other accessories are included.

Can I link it to another Game Boy?

Yes, through the serial link port with a Game Boy link cable, which is not included. It has no wireless connection.

When is the price lowest?

Boxed working units like this one tend to cost more than loose consoles; the $69.99 at Retro Island Gaming as of November 5, 2026 is the best of five store prices, so compare loose-unit prices if the box does not matter to you.
