The New Nintendo 2DS XL is Nintendo's final clamshell handheld, a lighter, cheaper take on the New 3DS XL that drops the 3D screen but keeps the faster processor, C-stick, ZL/ZR buttons and Amiibo NFC. It plays the full 3DS and DS library, including the handful of games built only for the 'New' hardware. Its best new price is $249.99 at PayMore Derita as of November 4, 2026, well above the $150 launch price and near the top of what this discontinued console now sells for.

Owners rate it highly as a comfortable, light way to play 3DS games, and many prefer it to the New 3DS XL because they never used 3D. Complaints center on the small stylus, the mono speaker and the fiddly microSD access.
