Our take on the Novilla King Mattress Topper - 3 Inch Cooling Gel Infused Memory Foam Mattress Topper

The Novilla King Mattress Topper is a 3-inch slab of gel-infused memory foam in blue, sold as a way to soften a firm mattress or revive an old one without buying a new bed. The gel infusion is meant to pull heat away, though a 3-inch foam layer still sleeps warmer than a bare mattress. It is a budget-tier topper, so expect it to compress and lose some loft over a year or two of nightly use.

Pros
  • 3 inches adds real cushioning over a firm surface
  • Gel infusion helps a little with heat versus plain memory foam
  • King size covers a full king mattress
  • Foam can be trimmed to fit odd sizes

Cons
  • Memory foam still sleeps warm for hot sleepers
  • Soft foam can make a sagging mattress feel worse
  • No straps or grip base, so it can shift on slick sheets
  • May develop body impressions with daily use
  • Off-gassing smell is common in the first days

Questions and answers

Is this topper actually cooling?
Only mildly. The gel infusion slows heat buildup compared with plain memory foam, but 3 inches of foam still traps body heat. Hot sleepers should look at a latex or hybrid topper instead.
Will it make my firm mattress softer?
Yes. Three inches of memory foam adds noticeable cushioning, which suits side sleepers and anyone who finds their king mattress too hard. It will not fix a mattress that already sags.
Does it fit a standard king mattress?
Yes, it is cut for a king. Foam can be trimmed with a knife if your bed is slightly off-size, and it works under a fitted sheet.
How long does it take to expand?
Usually 24 to 48 hours after unrolling. Some odor may linger for a few days, so air it out in a ventilated room before use.
Is it worth it over buying a new mattress?
For a firm but structurally sound mattress, yes. If your mattress is sagging or more than eight years old, the topper will only mask the problem.
When is the best time to buy?
Foam toppers like this one see the deepest discounts around major sales events and during mattress-brand promotions. Check the price history before buying at full price.
