Our take on the Nulas 14 Piece Kitchen Knife Set with Block Self Sharpening

The Nulas 14-piece set pairs six stamped high-carbon stainless steel knives with a self-sharpening block that hones the blades each time you pull one out. The block holds the knives plus kitchen shears and steak knives, and everything is dishwasher safe. It is a budget-priced starter set rather than forged cutlery. The listing shows no current price, so check the live comparison before buying.

Questions and answers

Is the Nulas knife set worth it?
For a first kitchen or a gift, yes. It covers the core knife types at a low price. If you cook daily and want long-lasting edges, a few forged knives bought separately will serve you better.
How does the self-sharpening block work?
Ceramic or carbide slots in the block sharpen the blade as you insert or remove each knife. It keeps edges usable without a whetstone, but it removes steel each time, so blades thin out over years.
Are the knives dishwasher safe?
The listing says yes. Hand washing still keeps edges sharper longer, since heat and detergent dull blades and can spot the steel.
What is in the box?
Six knives: 8-inch chef's, 8-inch slicing, 7-inch Santoku, 8-inch serrated bread, 5-inch utility and 3.5-inch paring. The rest of the 14 pieces are the block, steak knives and kitchen shears.
When is it cheapest?
Sets like this usually drop during holiday sales and back-to-school promotions. Check the price history on this page before buying.
