Is the OluKai Hiapo worth $130?

If you want a leather flip-flop that survives water and lasts several seasons, the build justifies it for many owners. If you only need occasional pool wear, a cheaper rubber pair does the job.

How does the Hiapo compare with the OluKai Ohana?

The Ohana uses a synthetic upper and a lighter EVA footbed and costs less. The Hiapo steps up to full-grain leather and a polyurethane midsole, so it feels more substantial and breaks in more slowly.

Do the Hiapo sandals run true to size?

Owners generally say they fit true to size in normal width. If you are between sizes or have a wide foot, many suggest sizing up.

Can you wear the Hiapo in water?

Yes. The leather is treated as waterproof and the rubber outsole grips wet surfaces. Rinse and dry them in shade after saltwater use to keep the leather from stiffening.

How long does break-in take?

Most owners report the footbed and thong post soften within one to two weeks of regular wear. Wearing them for short stretches first reduces toe rubbing.

Our take on the OluKai Hiapo Sandals

The OluKai Hiapo is a men's leather thong sandal built for everyday wear and light water use. It pairs a full-grain leather upper with a compression-molded EVA and polyurethane midsole and a rubber outsole, and the leather-lined footbed molds to the foot over time. The best new price is $130 at Scheels as of November 7, 2026, with six stores carrying it new; that sits at the top of its usual street range, so it is not a discount moment.
