Is the Onn 8.1 Core Tablet worth $116?

For reading, video and light browsing, yes. At $116 at Walmart as of November 5, 2026, it is cheap for 64 GB of storage. If you need speed for games or heavy apps, spend more on a name-brand tablet.

How long does the battery last?

Onn claims 15 hours. Expect less with video streaming or a bright screen, and more with reading and standby.

Does it have cellular data?

No. It is Wi-Fi only, so you need a hotspot or Wi-Fi network away from home.

How much storage does it have, and can I add more?

It comes with 64 GB. Onn tablets typically take a microSD card for extra storage, so check the listing for card support before buying.

It is a reasonable first tablet: light, cheap and small enough for small hands. Add a case, since budget tablets are not rugged.

Walmart lists it at $116 as of November 5, 2026, and no other store prices it new. Onn tablets often drop around Black Friday and back-to-school sales, so watch those periods.

Our take on the Onn 8.1 Core Tablet

The Onn 8.1 Core Tablet is Walmart's house-brand Android tablet, sold in blue with 64 GB of storage, an 8.1-inch screen and a claimed 15-hour battery. It weighs 12.5 oz and carries a 5 MP rear camera and 2 MP front camera. At $116 at Walmart as of November 5, 2026, it sits at its only listed new price, so there is no cheaper store to compare against. It is a budget tablet meant for light tasks, not a replacement for an iPad or a premium Android slate.
