Our take on the Oral-B 3731 2500mAh Replacement Battery for Oral-B 8000

This is a replacement NiMH battery pack rated 2500mAh for Oral-B electric toothbrushes, including the 8000 series. It is a DIY part: you open the handle and solder or clip it in, so it suits owners keeping an older brush alive rather than anyone wanting a new toothbrush. The 2.4 W figure matches the draw of Oral-B's oscillating handles, and the cell is made in Germany. It is a low-cost part, so its price sits well below what a new Oral-B handle costs.

Keeping a discontinued or out-of-warranty Oral-B handle out of landfill
Pros
  • Restores runtime on a handle that dies after a few brushes
  • 2500mAh capacity is at the upper end for this handle size
  • Genuine-style fit for Oral-B 8000 and similar oscillating handles
  • Far cheaper than replacing the whole toothbrush
  • Made in Germany cell
Cons
  • Requires disassembly and often soldering; not a drop-in swap
  • Opening the handle can void remaining warranty and break the waterproof seal
  • No charger or brush head included
  • Capacity claims are hard to verify without a runtime test

What reviewers say

Owners who have done the swap report the handle runs for days again and describe it as a cheap fix for an otherwise dead brush. The common complaints are about the install, not the cell: tight fit, sealant to redo, and no instructions in the box.

Pros
  • Brings a dead Oral-B handle back to multi-day runtime
  • Cheap compared with a new handle
  • Fits the 8000 body without modification
Cons
  • Installation is fiddly and needs soldering on some revisions
  • No fitting instructions included
  • Waterproof seal must be redone carefully or the handle fails again

Questions and answers

Is this battery worth it?
If your Oral-B 8000 still works but dies after a brush or two, yes: it costs a fraction of a new handle. If the motor or switch is failing, a new battery will not fix it.
Will it fit my Oral-B model?
It is listed for the Oral-B 8000 and similar oscillating handles that use this cell size. Check your handle's model number and battery shape before ordering, since other Oral-B ranges use different packs.
Do I need to solder it in?
On most Oral-B 8000 handles the cell is soldered to the board, so you need a soldering iron and basic skills. Some revisions use a connector, but do not count on it.
How long does the charge last?
At 2500mAh it should give roughly the same runtime as the original cell, typically about a week or more of twice-daily brushing. Real runtime depends on brushing time and the handle's age.
What is in the box?
The battery cell only. No charger, brush head, tools or instructions are included, so plan on reusing your existing charger and buying or borrowing a soldering iron.
When is it cheapest?
Replacement cells like this are usually cheapest from parts sellers rather than brand stores, and prices move little. Compare listings for the same 2500mAh cell and check shipping, which can exceed the part price.
