Is the Hide-A-Squirrel good for aggressive chewers?

No. Outward Hound rates it for heavy play but not for aggressive chewers. Strong chewers will tear the plush and squeakers; supervise or pick a rubber puzzle toy instead.

What comes in the box?

One hollow plush tree trunk and three plush squeaky squirrels. The squirrels go inside the trunk for the dog to pull out.

Is the XL size right for a small dog?

The XL trunk is large, but the squirrels are small enough for most dogs. Small dogs can still play; the trunk is just bulkier to carry.

Is it machine washable?

The plush can be surface cleaned or hand washed and air dried. Check the care tag and remove squeakers if your dog is rough on toys.

Plush puzzle toys like this often drop around pet-toy sales and holidays. At $8.00 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it is already near the bottom of its usual range.

Our take on the Outward Hound Hide-A-Squirrel Plush Dog Toy Puzzle

The Hide-A-Squirrel is a plush puzzle toy: three squeaky squirrels stuffed into a hollow tree trunk that dogs dig out and fetch. It suits dogs that like to nose and paw at hidden toys rather than just chew. The XL version is the largest size in the line. At $8.00 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it is at the low end of what this toy usually sells for, so it is a cheap way to try the puzzle format.
