Our take on the Owala FreeSip Kids Leak‑Proof Bottle
The Owala FreeSip Kids is a 16 oz (470 ml) triple-wall insulated stainless steel bottle with the FreeSip lid: sip through the built-in straw or tilt back to drink from the wide spout. It is leak-proof, BPA-, lead- and phthalate-free, and sized for small hands at about 8.8 inches tall and 2.85 inches wide. Questions and answers
- Is the Owala FreeSip Kids bottle really leak-proof?
- Yes. The lid seals closed and the bottle is designed to be leak-proof when the lid is shut, so it can go in a backpack without soaking books. Keep the lid fully closed and the spout clean for the seal to work.
- How does the FreeSip spout work?
- The patented FreeSip lid has a built-in straw you sip from upright and a wide opening you drink from when you tilt the bottle back. Kids can use either without changing lids.
- How long does it keep water cold?
- The triple-layer stainless steel insulation keeps cold drinks cold for hours, though Owala does not publish a specific hour rating for this kids' size. Pre-chilling the bottle helps it last longer.
- Can it go in the dishwasher?
- The insulated body should be hand washed to protect the vacuum insulation; the lid and straw are best washed by hand too. A bottle brush reaches the bottom and the straw.
- What size is it, and is it good for a 5-year-old?
- It holds 16 oz (470 ml) and stands about 8.8 inches tall with a 2.85-inch diameter, which suits most kids around 4 to 8. Older kids may want the larger adult FreeSip.
- Is it BPA-free and safe for kids?
- Yes. Owala states the bottle is BPA-, lead- and phthalate-free, and the stainless steel body does not hold flavors or odors.
