Is the Ozark Trail 8X42 worth it?

For casual use at a low price, yes. If you wear glasses or need a wide view, spend more on a pair with longer eye relief and a wider field.

Can I use these with glasses?

Barely. The 9mm eye relief means your glasses will likely press against the eyecups and cut the view. Most glasses wearers want 15mm or more.

How wide is the view?

The 5.3-degree field of view works out to roughly 278 feet at 1,000 yards. That is narrow for 8x42 binoculars, so finding fast-moving birds takes more effort.

Are they good for stargazing?

They work for casual sky viewing thanks to the 42mm lenses, but the 4mm exit pupil and narrow field make them less comfortable than a dedicated astronomy pair.

What comes in the box?

The binoculars, a neck strap, a carry case and a cleaning cloth.

When is the best time to buy?

Ozark Trail gear typically drops around fall hunting season and end-of-summer clearance. Watch the price history for a dip below the usual range.

Our take on the Ozark Trail 8X42 Binoculars

The Ozark Trail 8X42 is a budget roof-prism binocular with fully multi-coated glass lenses, 8x magnification and 42mm objectives, sold with a neck strap, carry case and cleaning cloth. It weighs 1.28 lb and uses a manual center focus. The 8x42 formula is the standard all-around outdoor setup, and this model undercuts most name-brand 8x42s on price. Its short 9mm eye relief is the main spec limitation.
