Is the Peak Matrix Pen worth it for a working artist?

At $164.99 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it is a mid-priced pen with a proven coreless motor and a 4mm stroke that covers most everyday work. It makes sense if you want one light machine for lining and shading and don't need a click grip.

What voltage should I run it at?

Stay between 7.5V and 10V. Peak says not to exceed 11V, which can damage the motor.

Does it take standard cartridge needles?

Yes. It is compatible with a variety of cartridge needles, so most standard cartridges fit.

What comes in the box?

The machine, two O-rings, one allen key, three drive bar nubs and a right-angle RCA cord. You supply the power supply and needles.

How does it compare with other Peak pen machines?

It sits in Peak's pen-style line with the same focus on control and precision. The 4mm stroke and 1827 motor make it a general-purpose machine rather than a specialist liner or packer.

Discontinued colors (blue, orange, silver) have been discounted for final sale, so those are the lowest-priced options when in stock. Otherwise watch the two stores listing it new for price changes.
