Is the DDJ-400 good for beginners?

Yes. It is one of the most recommended first controllers because its layout mirrors Pioneer club equipment, so skills carry over. The included rekordbox DJ license means no extra software cost.

Should I buy the DDJ-400 or the DDJ-FLX4?

The DDJ-FLX4 is the newer replacement and adds support for more software plus a few layout tweaks. The DDJ-400 is still fine if you find it cheaper and only plan to use rekordbox.

Does the DDJ-400 need a power adapter?

No. It is bus-powered over USB from your laptop. You only need the USB cable and headphones, plus speakers or an amp connected by RCA.

Can I use the DDJ-400 with Serato or other software?

It is designed for rekordbox DJ. It is not an official Serato or Traktor controller, so use it with rekordbox for full functionality.

The controller, a USB cable and a rekordbox DJ license key. Headphones and speakers are not included.

When is the best time to buy one?

Since it is discontinued, watch for clearance and used listings. Prices swing with remaining stock, so compare across stores and the used market before buying.

Our take on the Pioneer DDJ-400

The Pioneer DDJ-400 is a compact two-channel DJ controller built for rekordbox DJ, with jog wheels, 16 performance pads, a three-band EQ and a crossfader. It is aimed at beginners and home DJs who want a club-style layout without a club-sized price. It is light at 2.1 kg and runs on PC, Mac or iOS. It has been discontinued and replaced by the DDJ-FLX4, so stock and pricing now depend on remaining inventory and the used market.
