Is the ES20 sold as a pair?

No. The price is for one speaker, so a stereo pair means buying two.

Do I need a special amplifier for the ES20?

It is a 4-ohm speaker, so use a receiver or amp rated for 4-ohm loads. Most mid-range and up home theater receivers are fine.

Can I use the ES20 as a surround speaker?

Yes. It is timbre-matched to the Signature Elite series and can serve as surrounds or rear channels, and it is wall-mountable.

Does it need a subwoofer?

For movies, yes. It reaches 49 Hz, which is good for a bookshelf, but a subwoofer adds the deep bass a surround system needs.

Is the ES20 worth it at $399?

At $399 at Walmart as of November 8, 2026, it is a fair price for a Hi-Res certified bookshelf with a 6.5-inch woofer. Compare it with the price of a second unit before committing to a pair.

One ES20 speaker. Check the listing for mounting hardware and grille details before buying.

Owners of the Signature Elite line generally praise the ES20 for clear highs and surprisingly full bass at its size, and many use it as part of a matched Polk surround setup. The main complaints are that it is sold one at a time and that it needs a receiver that handles 4 ohms well.
