Will it fit my 1974 914?

No. This tank fits early 914-4 and 914-6 models from 1970 through the 1973 changeover. Later cars use the compartmentalized tank 914 201 010 12, which is not interchangeable.

Is it worth it over cleaning my old tank?

If your tank is rusted or heavily varnished inside, replacement is the more practical fix. A new steel tank avoids recurring contamination in the fuel system.
