Our take on the Portable Clip On Fan Small USB Travel Fan

This is a small USB-powered clip fan with a remote control and five speed settings. The clip mount lets it attach to a desk edge, bed frame, stroller or treadmill, and the remote means you can change speed without reaching for it. It is a budget accessory rather than a room cooler, so expect a personal breeze, not whole-room airflow.

Best forDesk and home-office users who want a quiet personal breezeHot sleepers clipping it to a bed frame or headboardStroller, crib and treadmill use where a clip mount helps
Travelers and dorm residents with limited outlet space
Pros
  • Clip mount grips desks, frames and rails and also stands on a flat surface
  • Remote control changes speed from across a room
  • Five speeds give finer control than the usual three
  • USB power works from a laptop, power bank or wall adapter
  • Small and light enough to pack in a bag
Cons
  • Personal cooling only; it will not cool a whole room
  • Remote needs its own battery and is easy to misplace
  • Airflow and build quality vary widely between budget models
  • Clip grip can be weak on thick or rounded surfaces
  • Cheap motors can get noisy at the top speed

Questions and answers

Is this fan worth it?
It is worth it if you want a small, movable personal breeze with a remote and clip mount. It is not a substitute for a room fan or air conditioner.
How many speeds does it have?
Five. That is more granular than the three speeds common on budget clip fans, though the top speed is still a personal-cooling level.
Can it run from a power bank?
Yes, USB power means it can run from a power bank, laptop or USB wall adapter. Runtime depends on the bank's capacity and the speed setting.
Does the remote come with a battery?
That varies by model, so check the box contents before buying. Remotes for fans this size usually use a small coin cell.
Will the clip fit a thick bed frame?
It depends on the jaw opening, which is not specified here. Thin rails and desk edges are the safest fit; very thick or rounded frames may not grip well.
When is it cheapest?
Small USB fans like this usually drop in price during summer heat waves and again in end-of-season clearance. Compare across stores rather than buying at the first listing.
