Question 1

Is the RT-480SS worth it over a cheaper gas griddle?

Accepted Answer

If you want Recteq build quality and a stainless body, it is a reasonable step up from budget griddles. If you mainly want low-cost flat-top cooking, a basic two-burner griddle does the same job for less.

Question 2

How is this different from Recteq's pellet grills?

Accepted Answer

It runs on propane, not wood pellets, so it heats in minutes and gives direct high heat rather than smoke flavor. It is a griddle, not a smoker, so it will not replace a Recteq pellet grill for low-and-slow cooks.

Question 3

Does it need a propane tank?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It is a gas griddle, so you need a standard propane tank and a hose and regulator, which are typically sold separately. Check the listing for what is included before ordering.

Question 4

What can I cook on a rectangular griddle this size?

Accepted Answer

Burgers, pancakes, eggs, fried rice, fajitas and vegetables all work well. The rectangular shape gives you a wide zone for spreading food out and a cooler edge for keeping items warm.

Question 5

When is the price likely to be lowest?

Accepted Answer

Gas griddles tend to drop around spring grilling sales, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Black Friday. Recteq also runs direct promotions, so compare its site with other stores before buying.

Question 6

Is it hard to clean?

Accepted Answer

Flat-tops need scraping and wiping while still warm, plus emptying the grease tray. It takes a few minutes after each cook, more than a closed gas grill.
