Is the Deluxe Edition worth it over the standard version?

Only if you want the extra costumes, the original soundtrack swap and the bonus weapons. The story and gameplay are identical to the standard edition, so buy standard if you just want the campaign.

Do I need to have played the original Resident Evil 2?

No. The remake is a full reworking and stands on its own, though veterans will recognize the police station layout and key puzzles.

How long is the campaign?

A first playthrough of one character's campaign runs roughly 6 to 10 hours. Playing both Leon and Claire adds several more hours.

Is there multiplayer or co-op?

No. Resident Evil 2 is a single-player game only.

What platforms does it run on?

It was released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and plays on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S through backward compatibility. Check the listing's country and language compatibility before buying.

Capcom discounts the game regularly during seasonal sales, and the Deluxe Edition often drops close to the standard edition's sale price. Watch the price history rather than buying at full price.

Our take on the Resident Evil 2: Deluxe Edition

Resident Evil 2: Deluxe Edition is Capcom's 2019 remake of the 1998 survival horror classic, bundled with extra costumes, the original soundtrack swap and a deluxe weapon set. It follows rookie cop Leon Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield through a zombie-overrun Raccoon City, with the series' signature limited ammo and item management. The base game is widely regarded as one of the best remakes in the genre. Deluxe extras are cosmetic and soundtrack content, not new story.
