Is the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus Battery worth it?

Yes if you want a no-wiring outdoor camera and already use Alexa. If you want 2K video or don't want a subscription, a wired or local-storage camera is a better fit.

Do I need a subscription?

No for live view and motion alerts. You need a Ring Home plan to record, save and review clips, and for person and package detection.

How long does the battery last?

Ring rates it at months per charge with typical use. Heavy motion events and cold weather shorten that, so expect to recharge several times a year in busy spots.

Does it work without Wi-Fi?

No. It needs a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection to stream and send alerts.

The camera, a rechargeable battery pack, a mounting bracket and screws, and a USB charging cable. A Ring Bridge is not included or needed.

Ring cameras usually drop around Prime Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.

Our take on the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus Battery

The Ring Outdoor Cam Plus Battery is a wire-free outdoor security camera with a 140° field of view, color night vision out to about 30 ft, two-way audio and motion alerts. It runs on a rechargeable battery pack and connects over Wi-Fi, so it needs no wiring, and it works with Amazon Alexa. It is a mid-range Ring model: cheaper than the wired Pro and Spotlight lines, more capable than the basic Indoor Cam. A 4.5-star average from 800 ratings puts owner satisfaction high, though the usual Ring caveats about subscription costs apply.
