Does Safe'n'Sound really block sound?

It reduces airborne noise through walls and floors better than standard fiberglass because of its density. It will not stop all sound; sealing gaps and adding a second drywall layer helps more.

What size stud bays does it fit?

The batts are 16 in wide and 3 in thick, sized for standard 16 in on-center framing. In 2x4 walls the 3 in thickness compresses or leaves little room, so 2x6 walls fit best.

How much area does one pack cover?

One pack covers 65 sq ft, which is about five 16 in by 48 in batts. Measure your wall area and add a little for cuts and waste.

Is it safe around electrical and plumbing?

Yes. It is non-combustible stone wool and is commonly packed around pipes, wiring and door frames. Keep the required clearance around heat-producing fixtures such as recessed lights.

How is it cut and installed?

Cut it with a serrated knife or insulation saw and press it into the bay; friction holds it in place. Wear gloves, long sleeves, eye protection and a mask.

When is the price lowest?

Insulation often drops during spring and fall renovation sales and bulk-buy promotions. Compare the per-square-foot price across stores before buying several packs.

Best forHomeowners soundproofing interior wallsCutting noise between floors through ceiling joistsDamp basements and bathrooms where mold is a concernRenovations that need a non-combustible insulation

Pros

Dense stone wool absorbs airborne sound better than standard fiberglass batts
Non-combustible and rated to withstand temperatures up to 2150°F
Does not promote mold, mildew or fungi and resists water
Friction fit holds in stud and joist bays without fasteners
Cuts cleanly with a serrated knife
Works around plumbing, doors and electrical boxes

Cons

3 in thickness needs deeper 2x4 walls or 2x6 framing to fit
Heavier and denser than fiberglass, so overhead ceiling work is tiring
Mineral wool fibers and dust irritate skin and lungs during install
Costs more per square foot than basic fiberglass
Not a complete sound barrier on its own; flanking paths still leak noise
