Is the Roku Streaming Stick HD worth it?

At $24.00 at Amazon as of November 3, 2026, it is one of the cheapest ways to add streaming apps and a voice remote to a 1080p TV. Skip it if your TV is 4K and you want to use that resolution.

Do I need a wall outlet to power it?

No. It powers from your TV's USB port with the included cable. If your TV has no USB port, you can use a USB power adapter instead.

Does it stream in 4K?

No. It tops out at 1080p and upscales 720p content. For 4K you need a Roku Streaming Stick 4K or a Roku Ultra.

The Streaming Stick, a voice remote, a USB power cable, and a power adapter. Check that your TV has an HDMI port and, for cord-free power, a USB port.

Can I take it to a hotel?

Yes. It is small enough to pack, and you can sign in to your apps on any TV with an HDMI port and Wi-Fi. Hotel Wi-Fi that requires a browser login can be a hurdle.

Our take on the Roku Streaming Stick HD

The Roku Streaming Stick HD is a 1080p streaming player that plugs straight into an HDMI port and draws power from the TV's USB port, so it hides behind the set with no wall outlet needed. It ships with a voice remote that also controls TV power and volume, and it runs Roku OS with the major apps plus more than 500 free live channels. It is a budget HD device, not a 4K one. Its best new price is $24.00 at Amazon as of November 3, 2026, the only price recorded so far.
