Is the Rubbermaid Configurations Deluxe kit worth it?

For a reach-in closet under about 6 feet wide, it covers hanging and shelf storage for around $136, well below custom closet systems. If you need drawers or a walk-in layout, a different kit fits better.

How wide a closet does it fit?

The rods and frame expand from 36 to 72 inches, so it suits closets in that range. Measure your wall first; wider closets need two kits or add-on sections.

Can I set it up as double-hang?

Yes. The two rods can be stacked for double-hang, which leaves about 10 inches of hang space per rod. That suits shirts and folded pants but not long dresses or coats.

Does it include mounting hardware?

Yes, mounting hardware is in the box. You still need a drill and should anchor into studs where possible, especially for loaded rods.

Is $135.99 a good price?

At $135.99 at Target as of November 4, 2026, it is at the low end of its recent range across the 6 stores that list it new. Waiting is unlikely to save much unless a seasonal closet sale hits.

Can I add more shelves or rods later?

Yes. The system is modular, and Rubbermaid sells add-on shelves, rods and brackets that use the same wall standards.

Our take on the Rubbermaid Configurations Deluxe Custom Closet Kit

The Rubbermaid Configurations Deluxe Custom Closet Kit is a wall-mounted modular system with two hanging rods and five shelves that adjusts from 36 to 72 inches wide. Shelves and rods reposition so you can set up single-hang, double-hang or shelf-heavy layouts, and rubber grippers on the rods keep pants from sliding. It is a DIY kit with mounting hardware included, not a custom-built closet. At $135.99 at Target as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, with 6 stores pricing it new.
