Is this kit good for a complete beginner?

Yes. It includes whittling knives, detail knives and chisels, so you can try several carving styles before buying single tools. Plan to strop the blades first, since factory edges are rarely carving-sharp.

Do the knives and chisels come sharp?

They arrive with a usable bevel but not a polished carving edge. A few minutes on a strop or fine stone makes a clear difference, especially on the detail knives.

The set has 25 pieces: 8 whittling knives, 5 detail knives, 3 chisels and gouges, plus the storage case. It does not include a sharpening stone or strop.

How does it compare with buying single Flexcut knives?

Single carving knives from established brands cost more per tool but hold an edge longer. This set gives you many tools for about $63, which suits learning and light projects better than daily hard carving.
