The Salsa Journeyer GRX 600 is an aluminum gravel bike with a carbon Waxwing fork, Shimano GRX RX400 disc brakes and 700c x 38 mm tubeless-ready tires. It is built for mixed-surface riding and bikepacking, with rack, fender and three-pack mounts plus internal dropper post routing. The 58 cm build weighs about 23 lb with pedals. Best forGravel riders who want one bike for road and dirtBikepackers who need rack and three-pack mountsRiders who prefer mechanical simplicity over electronic shiftingBuyers who want a carbon fork on an aluminum frame
Pros
  • 6061-T6 aluminum frame keeps the price down while the carbon Waxwing fork saves weight and damps chatter
  • Wide mounting options: rack, fender, downtube accessory and three-pack mounts
  • Internal dropper post routing makes it easy to add a dropper later
  • Shimano GRX RX400 hydraulic disc brakes with flat-mount 160 mm standard
  • 700c x 38 mm tubeless-ready tires suit gravel and light singletrack
Cons
  • Rigid fork and no suspension limit comfort on rough terrain
  • 38 mm tires are narrower than many gravel riders want for chunky gravel
  • Only one store lists it new at $1,300, so there is little price competition
  • 23 lb with pedals is not light for the class
