Is the S85D worth it over the S90D?

The S90D uses a QD-OLED panel and is noticeably brighter with richer color. The S85D costs less and still gives true OLED blacks. If you watch in a bright room or want the best picture, the S90D is worth the step up; in a dark room the S85D is the better value.

Is 65 inches the right size?

For a typical living room, 65 inches suits viewing distances of about 8 to 10 feet. Sit closer and a 55-inch may feel large; sit farther and a 77-inch is more immersive.

Does it support 120 Hz gaming?

Yes. The panel runs at 120 Hz and the HDMI inputs support high frame rate gaming with a low-latency mode. Check that your console or PC and cable support HDMI 2.1 to get the full rate.

Does it have Alexa and Google Assistant?

Yes, both are supported, along with Samsung's own voice assistant. You can control the TV and compatible smart home devices by voice.

Is OLED burn-in a concern?

OLED can show image retention if the same static elements, like news tickers or game HUDs, stay on screen for long periods. Normal mixed viewing is low risk, and the TV includes screen-care features.

OLED TVs usually drop around Black Friday, Super Bowl season and when new models launch in spring. Watch the price history to see whether a current price is near its low.

Our take on the Samsung 65-inch S85D OLED 4K Smart TV (2024)

The Samsung S85D is Samsung's entry-level OLED, sold here in a 65-inch size. It uses an OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 4K resolution and HDR, and it works with Alexa and Google Assistant. OLED gives it deep blacks and wide viewing angles, but it is not as bright as Samsung's QD-OLED sets. It is a strong pick for dark rooms and movie nights at a mid-range OLED price.
