Our take on the Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 5

The Saucony Endorphin Pro 5 is a carbon-plated road racing shoe built for fast efforts from 5K to marathon. It pairs a full-length carbon plate with Saucony's PWRRUN HG foam and a lightweight mesh upper for a stiff, propulsive ride. The medium-width men's version is the standard fit. It is a race-day tool, not an everyday trainer.

Best forRoad racers chasing personal bests at 5K to marathonRunners who like a firm, rockered, plate-assisted rideRace-day shoe for neutral runners with a stable strideShoppers upgrading from an older carbon-plated racer
Pros
  • Full-length carbon plate gives a stiff, rolling toe-off
  • Lightweight mesh upper breathes well and drains fast
  • PWRRUN HG foam is light and returns energy on tempo efforts
  • Rubber outsole holds grip on dry and damp pavement
  • Comes in standard medium width for most feet
Cons
  • Firm, aggressive ride punishes easy or recovery days
  • Plate and rocker suit neutral runners; overpronators may want more support
  • Thin race upper offers little padding or structure
  • Outsole rubber wears quickly with heavy daily use
  • Premium race-shoe price, and deals are rare

Questions and answers

Is the Endorphin Pro 5 worth it?
Yes if you race or do hard tempo work and want a light carbon-plated shoe. It is a poor choice as a single daily trainer because the firm plate beats up your legs on easy days.
How does it compare with the Endorphin Pro 4?
The Pro 5 keeps the carbon plate and rockered geometry but uses a lighter PWRRUN HG foam and a thinner mesh upper. The result is a slightly firmer, faster-feeling ride than the Pro 4.
Is it good for a marathon?
Yes. The plate and rocker keep turnover efficient over 26.2 miles, and the breathable upper stays comfortable. Practice in it on long runs first, since the firm ride takes adaptation.
Does it fit true to size?
It runs true to length in standard medium width, but the race upper is snug. Runners with wide feet or high arches should try it on or size up half a size.
Can I use it for daily training?
It works for tempo runs and intervals, but not as an everyday shoe. The foam and outsole rubber wear faster than a trainer's, and the stiff plate is tiring at easy pace.
When is it cheapest?
Carbon-plated racers rarely discount deeply. Watch for end-of-season colorway clearances and post-marathon sales, when older colorways drop most.
What do buyers say about the Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 5?
Rated 4.5 out of 5 from 807 ratings.
