Our take on the Singing Machine SMC2020 SingCast One - Video Casting Karaoke System

The Singing Machine SingCast One (SMC2020) is a battery-powered karaoke speaker that casts lyrics and video to your TV over Bluetooth while it plays the music. It stands out for the casting feature, echo voice effect and music-syncing lights, and it weighs 10.8 lb with a 9.7-inch-tall floor-standing cabinet. It is a mid-priced, family-oriented machine rather than a serious sound system, so expect fun over fidelity.

Questions and answers

Does the SingCast One need a TV?
No, it plays on its own through its built-in speaker. The casting feature is what sends lyrics and video to a TV, so a screen makes it a fuller karaoke setup.
How does it connect to my phone?
Over Bluetooth. You stream the backing tracks from a phone or tablet and the machine handles the vocals and echo effect.
Is it battery powered?
Yes, it runs on a battery, so you can use it without an outlet. Singing Machine does not publish a runtime figure, so charge it before a long party.
What comes in the box?
The machine, a microphone and a power adapter, plus a free month of access to the karaoke app. Check the box on arrival, since one buyer reported the adapter and mic missing.
Is it good for kids?
Yes. Reviewers single it out as fun for kids and family nights, and the lights and TV lyrics keep younger singers engaged.
Is the sound good enough for a party?
It has one speaker and reviewers describe the sound as only okay. It suits a living room; for a large room or a crowd, a bigger system will do better.
