Is the Heliostar 76Ha worth it?

If you mainly observe or photograph the sun, yes. The 0.55 Ångström bandpass gives double-stack-style contrast in one tube, which saves buying a second filter. At $3,218.26 at Altair Astro as of November 4, 2026, it is a serious purchase, so buy it only if solar work is your main interest.

Do I need a second filter to double stack it?

No. Sky-Watcher rates the built-in 0.55 Ångström bandpass as double-stack performance, so you get narrow-band contrast without adding an external etalon.

What mount does it fit?

It has a Vixen-style dovetail, so it fits most Vixen-compatible equatorial and alt-az mounts. The 8.4 lb tube needs a mount rated comfortably above that weight for steady views.

Can I attach a camera?

Yes. It is camera-adaptable and accepts electronic focusers, so you can image the sun. You will need your own camera and any adapters, since none are listed as included.

What eyepieces come with it?

The included eyepieces give about 32x, and the scope supports up to roughly 150x. It takes 1.25-inch eyepieces, so check that your existing eyepieces use that barrel size.

Only one store, Altair Astro, lists it new at $3,218.26 as of November 4, 2026, so there is no competing price to wait for. Watch for seasonal solar-season sales at that store.

Our take on the Sky-Watcher Heliostar 76Ha

The Heliostar 76Ha is a dedicated hydrogen-alpha solar telescope with a 76 mm aperture, 630 mm focal length and f/8.3 ratio. It uses a 0.55 Ångström narrow bandpass that Sky-Watcher rates as double-stack performance, so prominences and surface detail show in one tube without a second filter. The dual-speed Crayford focuser, integrated solar finder and Vixen dovetail make it ready to mount and image. Its best new price is $3,218.26 at Altair Astro as of November 4, 2026, with only one store listing it new, so there is little price competition to shop around.
