Our take on the Sonance 5.1 In-Ceiling Speaker System

This is a five-speaker in-ceiling surround package plus a subwoofer, built for a living room or media room where floor and wall space is tight. The round, paintable grilles sit flush with the ceiling, and the wired 8-ohm design runs off a standard AV receiver over banana jacks. The system is rated at 125 W RMS with 725 W total peak output and 89 dB sensitivity, so most mid-range receivers can drive it. At $128.00 at eBay as of November 3, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, well under the typical new price for a Sonance 5.1 set.

Questions and answers

Is this system worth it at $128?
At $128.00 at eBay as of November 3, 2026, it is a low price for a full five-speaker Sonance in-ceiling set with a subwoofer. Check that the listing includes all six pieces before buying.
Do I need a receiver to use it?
Yes. The system is wired and passive, with 8-ohm nominal impedance and banana-jack connections, so it needs a 5.1 AV receiver or amplifier to power it.
How hard is the installation?
You cut round holes in the ceiling, run speaker cable to each location and connect to a receiver. Plan the layout and cable path before cutting, and consider a pro for finished ceilings.
Will the subwoofer give strong bass?
The subwoofer has a 6-inch driver rated to 30 Hz, which is small for a large room. Expect solid mid-bass but not the deep rumble of a big standalone sub.
Can I paint the grilles?
Yes. The round grilles are paintable, so you can match them to your ceiling color for a flush look.
When is it cheapest?
The $128.00 eBay price as of November 3, 2026 is already near the bottom of its recent range. Watch for open-box or multi-speaker listings if you need more than one set.
