Our take on the Sonos Roam Portable Smart Speaker & Charger Bundle

The Sonos Roam is a small portable smart speaker that works over Wi-Fi at home and switches to Bluetooth away from it. It supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, and it pairs with other Sonos speakers for multi-room audio. This bundle adds a charging dock, so you can leave it topped up on a counter instead of hunting for a cable. The latest best price for the bundle is $199 at Sonos as of November 3.

Questions and answers

Is the Roam worth it over a cheaper Bluetooth speaker?
If you already use Sonos or want Wi-Fi streaming and voice assistants, yes. For plain Bluetooth playback, cheaper speakers match it on battery life.
How does it compare with the Sonos Move?
The Move is larger, louder and has much longer battery life, but it costs more and is heavier to carry. The Roam is the pocketable option.
How long does the battery last?
Sonos rates it at about 10 hours of playback. Heavy volume and voice assistant use shorten that.
Can I use it without Wi-Fi?
Yes. It works as a Bluetooth speaker, but multi-room audio and most voice features need Wi-Fi.
What is in the bundle?
The Roam speaker and a Sonos charging dock. A USB-C cable is included with the speaker.
When is it cheapest?
Sonos discounts the Roam around major sales events and when a new model is due. The bundle price was $199 at Sonos as of November 3.
What do buyers say about the Sonos Roam Portable Smart Speaker & Charger Bundle?
