Our take on the Sony Alpha A7II Mirrorless Digital Camera

The Sony Alpha A7II is a full-frame mirrorless camera from 2015 with a 24.3MP CMOS sensor and in-body 5-axis image stabilization. It was the first A7 to add stabilization, which steadies any lens, including old manual glass. It is now a cheap way into full frame, and the best new price is $493.25 at eBay as of November 4, 2026.

Cons
  • Old autofocus: 117 phase-detect points, weak at tracking

  • Small EVF and dated menus by current standards
  • Heavy for a mirrorless body at about 600g

Questions and answers

Is the A7II still worth buying in 2026?
Yes if you want full frame cheaply and shoot mostly stills or slow subjects. At $493.25 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it costs less than most APS-C kits. Skip it if you need fast autofocus or 4K.
How does it compare with the A7III?
The A7III has a much better autofocus system, a larger battery, 4K video and a newer sensor. It costs far more. The A7II is the budget pick; the A7III is the one for action and events.
Does the stabilization work with non-Sony lenses?
Yes. The 5-axis stabilization is in the body, so it works with adapted Canon, Nikon and vintage manual lenses. You set the focal length manually for non-chipped lenses.
How many shots can I get per battery charge?
Sony rates it around 350 shots with the LCD. Real use is often lower in cold weather or with Wi-Fi. Carry a spare NP-FW50 battery.
What is in the box?
A new body typically ships with a battery, charger, body cap and strap. Lenses are sold separately unless a kit is listed, so check the listing before buying.
When is the price lowest?
Prices on this 2015 model mostly drift down over time and dip during holiday sales. Check the price history before buying, since used units often sell for less than new.
Where is the Sony Alpha A7II Mirrorless Digital Camera cheapest?
At eBay, for $493.25, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Sony Alpha A7II Mirrorless Digital Camera?
